Rachel Parker
Rachel Parker is a surface pattern designer working in print and embroidery. Her work explores and combines the flexibility and immediacy of print with the slow simplicity of stitching by hand. Collecting, cross-stitching, grids and symbols are big influences in her work. Many of her print designs are inspired by embroidery and traditional crafts; she'll often scan in her stitches artwork and redraw it digitally, linking the two very different processes to create patterns that are contemporary and unique. Rachel describes her creative process as 'Digital Craft' and her work is usually identified by her eclectic use of colour, something very important to Flock!
Rachel graduated from Norwich University of the Arts and we first spotted her designs at New Designers where we were drawn to her beautiful, colourful collage work. Together we worked to transform this artwork into a full repeating fabric pattern for interiors- 'Northmore'. We challenged the scale and geometry of this beautiful piece to create a huge design that shows off the colours and shapes hidden within.
Rachel is an integral part of the Flock team and with her incredible eye for colour she spends a lot of time reworking designs and preparing colour way options ready for sampling and final selection.
